Currently most insurances have acknowledged the importance of helping parents achieve their breastfeeding goals and have begun offering coverage for lactation support services. Unfortunately most companies will not allow IBCLCs to bill them directly like most medical providers are able to, but instead prefer to reimburse their customer for the expense.

For these reasons, Tiny Tummies does not accept insurance at this time. Instead, the client will be issued appropriate paperwork and step by step instructions on obtaining reimbursement from their insurer. In most cases this is reimbursed. More information on why IBCLCs typically do not take insurance, and how you can take action to help change this, can be found here.

Should insurance not reimburse the client there is some good news – breastfeeding support visits are considered an out of pocket medical expense come tax time!
